WHAT DOES IT MEAN IF I MEET THE PRESIDENT DURING SORORITY RECRUITMENT?

Are the sorority members sending you hidden messages?

What do the conversations mean?

What does it mean if you are talking to the President or the Recruitment Chair, or anyone who holds a leadership position?

What does it mean if you are talking to multiple members or one member?

Let’s talk about some of the rumors of sorority recruitment.

HOW DO CONVERSATIONS WORK IN SORORITY RECRUITMENT?

In every round of sorority recruitment you talk to at least one member. Sometimes the members are assigned to you. Other times, it’s completely random.

As the rounds go on, the conversations get deeper. During Round One, the members will ask you surface-level questions. Like:

  • What’s your major?

  • What dorm do you live in?

  • Where are you from?

  • Did you know your roommate before college?

Then by Pref (the last round of sorority recruitment), the conversations are deep. The sorority members want to know what you are looking for in a sorority and if you will be a good fit for the sorority.

Why are these rumors circling sorority recruitment? Why are potential new members saying they talked to the President or the Recruitment Chair?

Everyone is looking for reassurance from their favorite sorority. They want to make sure they are making the “right” decision.

What does it mean if you meEt the President or a member who holds a position?

The Recruitment Chair is in charge of everything related to recruitment — reading recommendation letters, planning the structure of each round, designing t-shirts, etc.

The President is on the Recruitment Team. She works directly with the Recruitment Chair to plan sorority recruitment.

Their Job during Sorority Recruitment

Before you walk into the sorority, they will usually introduce themselves and welcome you.

During sorority recruitment, they walk around. They are in charge of making sure each member is following the rules. Sometimes they will introduce themselves to a certain potential new member.

What does it mean if you meet the Recruitment Chair or the President?

It depends on the sorority. For some sororities, it means you have caught their attention. For others, meeting the President is random. She is introducing herself to many potential new members.

What if you talk to other members who have leadership positions?

Many times you are paired to talk to certain women. If you talk to someone on the leadership team, it means you have something in common with her.

What does it mean if you only Talk to one member?

Usually, the sororities want you to meet multiple members for each round. This way, you get to talk to a lot of different girls. When you talk to multiple members, you get a better feel for the sorority.

If you talk to one member, does it mean the sorority likes you?

Maybe.

If you talk to one member, does it mean the sorority doesn’t like you?

NO.

What does it mean if you talked to a sorority member that’s basically like your twin [you have a lot in common]?

During your conversations, you are paired to talk to specific members. These members have something in common with you – hometown, major, passions, volunteer work, sports, clubs, etc. These pairings make it easier to break from the scripted questions into a conversation.

How do the sororities know which member to pair you with?

The sororities look at your recommendation letters and your Instagram. Then, they find a member who has similar interests.

The main takeaway from this blog post is to not overthink all of these rumors. The sororities are not trying to send you a hidden message. If you talk to the President, cool. Did you connect with her?

Good luck with sorority recruitment! I am rooting for You!

First, you ask a friend, not in your math class, “How do I get an A+ on my test?” She says, “You need to study.” This answer leaves you frustrated.

Then, you ask your teacher, “How do I get an A+ on my test?” She gives you a step-by-step plan.

Who was more helpful?

Your teacher, right?

To get an A, you need to know the right information and have a step-by-step plan.

To get a bid to a sorority you love, you have to communicate you are the right fit for the sorority before and during sorority recruitment. A step-by-step plan tells you how and when to communicate.

BUT… why do so many women going through sorority recruitment ONLY use the advice they find on Youtube and TikTok? Does it help them stand out and get a bid?
